San Diego Shockwave National Indoor Football League (NIFL)

This year, TLCAD struck up a unique friendship and working relationship with the San Diego Shockwave. At each home game, played at SDSU’s Cox Arena, some of our dogs made appearances on the field every time a touchdown was scored by either team. It was the dog’s responsibility to retrieve the heavy plastic “T” used during the kickoffs. As soon as the ball was downed, Ben, Katy or Tahoe would run in from the sidelines through the players and find the “T”. They were a big crowd pleaser! As far as training is concerned, this was practice for them to be in a large noisy crowd and still be able to be on task. They often times worked around motorcycles, clowns and bands.

New ‘Leash-on-Life’ for families of children with autism

TLCAD sent two trainers to the National Service Dogs center (NSD) in Ontario, Canada for a three-week course from the pioneers in training assistance dogs for families of children with autism. These dogs provide safety and companionship, improve learning and communication, and relieve stress for the children and their families. TLCAD is establishing its own program and hopes to place 30 dogs within the next five years to families in San Diego County. We will connect with local research entities to work toward bettering the lives of those with autism. We thank National Service Dogs for their help in this mission.
The First Annual Matt Vasgersian Charity Texas Hold 'Em Tournament in San Diego
Texas Hold 'Em came to San Diego on August 2, 2007! Poker players of all levels joined Matt Vasgersian, Channel 4 San Diego's voice of the Padres, for a night of Texas Hold 'Em to benefit Tender Loving Canines, Assistance Dogs. Sponsored by Valley View Casino, the Tournament organizers hope to hold it annually.
