TERI Inc. and TLCAD

An exciting joint venture in early 2009 with TERI Inc is now in discussion. TERI is eager to have an Assistance Dog school on their campus and TLCAD is energized by a possible permanent location with a wonderful group of people with similar goals - increased independence for those with limited abilities. TLCAD's Mission of providing custom training dogs for those committed to bettering their lives through the use of an assistance dog will continue to be fulfilled for San Diego County. TERI has had the same goal since its inception in 1980 - to improve the quality of life for children and adults with developmental and learning disabilities nationwide. TLCAD would like to introduce you to TERI, Inc. Below find excerpts from their website.

TERI has made significant strides toward their goal, and continue to set new standards, through establishing and operating model programs; conducting applied research in best practice procedures; and offering training and consultation to professionals, families, and other community members. TERI specializes in serving individuals who have needs which cannot be met by other existing programs, which includes services to persons who have profound mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, brain trauma, severe behavioral disorders, dual diagnoses, and learning disabilities.

The agency has been cited as a model program in the State of California for the quality of services it provides to this population. As a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) California Corporation, the agency relies on donations from the community and foundations in order to continue to set standards and ensure quality of life to this population.

Mission Statement

We believe every individual with developmental and learning disabilities has the right to lead a valued, meaningful, and fulfilling life of uncompromised quality in their community.

Vision

To be an internationally recognized center of excellence and social change for education, life planning, health and fitness, research, and provision of model programs for persons with developmental and learning disabilities and those who support them across their lifespan.

Seeing Opportunities

After the Medical Diagnosis - families need help seeing beyond their child’s limitations to the world of opportunities that are possible with the right training and support.

Across the Lifespan - children with developmental and learning disabilities will continue to learn and grow. As their needs change, they require a team of professionals who are committed to their individual health and happiness.

There is A Bright Future That Awaits - each individual as they work toward meeting their maximum potential. Quality of life is defined, one person at a time, by how well we are able to help them lead a life of their own choosing surrounded by people who care about and believe in them.

The Opportunities Are There - when we all work together toward a common goal - a happy, high quality lifestyle. TERI has the vision, the expertise, and the dedication it takes to support children with developmental and learning disabilities and their families across the lifespan.

Removing Limitations

Focus On Abilities - that lie inside each individual. All of us have to find ways to face our limitations and enhance our abilities. We do this by building on our strengths and minimizing our weaknesses. We set goals, work hard, and stay focused on our dreams.

Never Give Up - even when the odds are not stacked in our favor. Children and adults with developmental and learning disabilities need a circle of support to meet their goals. TERI is part of this circle and we never give up, despite the severity of an individual’s behavioral, learning, or developmental challenges.

Applied Research and the Operation of Model Programs - are two of the ways that TERI removes limitations. We aren’t focused on a cure. We are focused on finding ways to teach and support children and adults with developmental and learning disabilities across the lifespan, day by day. We seek new therapies, new teaching techniques, and new environmental supports that can be employed to help people reach their maximum potential. For over 20 years, our team of experts has been focused on finding answers to everyday problems, one person at a time.

Imparting Hope

There’s A Place To Go To Find Solutions - for supporting children and adults who have behavior problems, profound developmental and learning disabilities, and multiple handicaps. That place is TERI. Our Campaign for TERI is designed to build a support center - one place in San Diego County where families can go to find solutions.

There’s A Team of Experts - who have spent over 20 years designing and operating model programs for this population and engaging in research aimed at finding ways to improve individual quality of life.

There’s A History of Success - experienced by children and adults who have been involved in TERI programs. We are a model in the State of California for the quality of services we provide. We realize our vision each time a child takes a first step forward toward meeting their goals; a family can stop their search; and a treatment method is found that can benefit all of us who love and support these special individuals.

There’s Hope - that the work we do will help not only those with developmental disabilities and their families for generations to come, but all of us who are a part of a diverse community that includes an ever-increasing number of individuals with these disabilities. In order for our children to take their place as your neighbors, co-workers, and friends, they need your understanding, help, and involvement.
