The Petco Foundation Hope Gala 2014 was held the evening of May 3, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. It was attended by over 750 pet lovers who support the welfare of our four legged friends. The Honoree for the event was Hilary Swank who was this year’s recipient of the Petco Foundation Hope Award, celebrating a life dedicated to promoting the pet human bond.

Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs (TLCAD), is excited to announce that they will be the beneficiary for the golf fundraiser at Colina Park Golf Course!

The funds raised will help TLCAD fulfill its mission of providing Service Dogs for Wounded Warriors with post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and/or mobility issues, as well as individuals on the autism spectrum. Jefferson Elementary School's Great Kindness Challenge

TLCAD was honored to be the recipient of Jefferson Elementary School's Great Kindness Challenge for the month of January. The Great Kindness Challenge is done through Kids for Peace, a non-profit that provides young people to give back to their community through leadership, community service, arts, environmental stewardship and global friendships.

Students took part in recycling to raise money for Service Dogs and give back to the community. Thank you to the wonderful students and staff at Jefferson Elementary for your support! Your efforts will continue to help us fulfill our mission of transforming lives with Service Dogs!

TLCAD Educates Brownie Troop #3655

Part of TLCAD's mission is to educate the community about Service Dogs and how they help individuals with autism and Wounded Warriors. This month, TLCAD Training Manager, Courtney Morman and Service Dog-in-Training, Zephyr, visited the Jolla Elementary School to provide an educational Service Dog demonstration to Brownie Troop #3655.

Zephyr showed off some of his skills: turning on a light switch, retrieving cell phones, and paying at a register, while the troop learned about Service Dogs and how they assist people with disabilities.

Your TLCAD volunteer trainer training begins with a course, called the Trainer Training Course, which will give you all of the initial foundation information you will need to successfully work with a TLCAD Service Dog in training. The course is eight weeks in length and you can start the class any week, due to the class not being cumulative, rather each week is a different module, eight in total. These modules will cover topics such as Service Dog laws, training methods, clicker skills, preventing behavior problems and more.

TLCAD would like to re-introduce Spencer Fox and his TLCAD Service Dog, Mojo, placed with Spencer four years ago. Mojo passed away suddenly a few months ago, but many of you are unaware of how big a gift Mojo was to Spencer and his family. Spencer was injured in a skiing accident and not expected to ever walk again. He was to enter high school, in a wheelchair rather than walk like most of his classmates.

Come meet the TLCAD team and our amazing Service Dogs on August 11
at Dog Days Of Summer in Cardiff!

Dog Days of Summer is San Diego County's largest dog-centric event, hosted in Cardiff-by-the-Sea by Cardiff 101 Main Street. This day-long event drew over 8,000 attendees in 2011 from all over San Diego and we anticipate nearly 10,000 people and dogs in attendance in 2012. There are over 130 vendors, a blessing of the dogs, dog contests, live music, food, an agility course, a doggie photo booth, doggie crafts, a doggie beach, a kids zone and a large silent auction.
