TLCAD Certification Course

The mission of the TLCAD Certification Course is to serve Wounded Warriors (active duty service members and veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and/or mobility issues) that would like to have their current dog or Service Dog build upon their training and become eligible for certification through an Assistance Dogs International (ADI) accredited organization (TLCAD). This program adheres to ADI's Minimum Standards for Certification of Owner/Private Trainer Trained Assistance Dog Teams.

Procedures to Enroll


  • 6 Month Course
  • Classes Twice Weekly
  • The Course Will Cover:
    • ADA and CA Laws
    • Foundation Cues
    • Customized Cues
    • Dog Health
    • Public Access
    • In Home Cues
  • The Course Includes:
    • Training Based on Positive Reinforcement Methods
    • Individualized Training Across a Variety of Environments
    • TLCAD Certification and Follow-up for Working Life of the Dog
  • Scholarships available to cover cost


  • Dog Must be 1 Year or Older
  • Breed Restrictions Based on Military Policy
  • Up to Date Vaccinations
  • Veterinary Note that Dog is Fit for Service Dog Work
  • Dog must pass TLCAD Temperament Test and Canine Good Citizen Test

Note: Client may be discharged at any time for temperament, health, or training issues not acceptable to Assistance Dogs International standards.
